Day 1 Bucharest
Upon arrival at the Bucharest airport you will be met and taken to your centrally located hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to begin your exploration of Bucharest. Dinner and overnight in Bucharest at the Hotel Novotel.
Day 2 Bucharest-Curtea de Arges-Sibiu-Sibiel
After breakfast depart to Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Visit the Episcopal Church where Romanian Kings are buried. Lunch in local restaurant. Drive along the picturesque Olt Valley to Sibiu, one of the oldest towns in Transylvania , formerly Hermannstadt, founded by Saxon colonists. Guided walking tour of the medieval town (the Main Square, the Evangelical Church, the Liars Bridge etc.). Continue to Sibiel, the village which was awarded the prize “Pomme d’Or by FIJET. Visit the Museum of Icons. Dinner and overnight at the Reghina guesthouse in Sibiel or similar
Day 3 Sibiel-Sighisoara-Targu Mures-Bistrita
Morning departure via Sighisoara, birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. Visit the medieval citadel: the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the House of Dracula and the roofed stairways. Lunch at House of Dracula restaurant. Drive on to Targu Mures, walking tour through the elegant city center well known for its architecture: The Culture Palace, the Orthodox Churches, the Teleki-Bolyai library. Continue to Bistrita and visit the Gothic Cathedral. It is the place where Jonathan Harker, Bram Stoker’s hero spent the night before arriving at Dracula's Castle. Dinner and overnight in Bistrita at the Hotel Coroana de Aur or similar.
Day 4 Bistrita-Maramures-Vadu Izei
Departure to Maramures, the land of wood. A trip to Maramures is in every season a wonderful experience: visit the traditional villages, the Merry Cemetery situated very close to the border side with Ukraine, a true chronicle about the villager's life. Late afternoon return to Vadu Izei via Sighetu Marmatiei, were you can admire the churches from the Austro-Hungarian period. Dinner and overnight in Vadu Izei at the Borlean Guesthouse.
Day 5 Vadu Izei-Painted Monasteries- Campulung-Gura Humorului
In the morning visit the Rozalvea and Ieud monasteries and the Peasant museum at Dragomiresti. Lunch en route. Drive on to Bucovina land of the unique painted monasteries belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage. Short stop in the Prislop Pass to admire the beautiful landscape and walking through Ciocanesti to admire the decorated houses. Arrival in Campulung Moldovenesc, visit the Wood Museum. Continue to Gura Humorului for dinner and overnight at the Hotel Bucovina. .
Day 6 Gura Humorului
In the morning, discover the Voronet Monastery, the jewel of Bucovina. Then visit the Monastery Moldovita, also included on the UNESCO Heritage list which received the Order la Pomme d’Or, awarded by the world’s journalists to the monasteries of Bucovina. Continue with a visit of the Sucevita monastery (1585), a genuine fortress.. Lunch en-route. Stop at the beautiful village of Marginea, famous for its black pottery in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Gura Humorului for at the Hotel Bucovina. .
Day 7 Gura Humorului-Piatra Neamt-Lacu Rosu
In the morning drive on through Moldovia villages. Visit the monasteries from Piatra Neamt: Neamt monastery which was built in the 14 century. Visit also the Secu monastery, traditional lunch at the monastery with wine and “tuica” (a traditional drink). Continue to the Agapia monastery, which is surrounded by small houses, which create a monarchy village. Arrive at Piatra Neamt in the afternoon. Walking tour and visit the St. John monastery. Dinner and overnight in Lacu Rosu at the Hotel Lacu Rosu
Day 8 Lacu Rosu-Prejmer-Bran Castle-Brasov
Drive on to Brasov, with a stop for a visit of the beautiful Prejmer fortified church. Continue to Bran to visit the medieval castle built as a fortress, The "Dracula's" Castle (1377). Lunch en route. Arrival at Brasov, formerly Kronstadt, founded by the Saxon colonists. Walking tour through the old town center, including the Black Church, the Council Square, the Hirche house, the baroque style buildings from the Austro-Hungarian times. Dinner and overnight in Brasov at the Hotel Coroana Brasovului.
Day 9 Brasov-Sinaia-Bucharest
In the morning, cross the Carpathian Mountains to arrive at Sinaia, one of the most beautiful mountain resorts in Europe, the so-called the "Pearl of the Carpathians." . Visit the fabulous Peles Castle , former residence of the Royal family with its armory collection, unique for its richness and its diversity. Lunch in a local restaurant .
Continue to Bucharest. Visit the Village Museum, one of the largest open-air museums in Europe. Panoramic sightseeing of Bucharest will reveal the highlights of the city, the so-called "Paris of the Balkan." Bucharest is an amazing city where modernity exists together with imposing monuments and buildings dating from 19th – 20th centuries. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Novotel. or similar.
Day 10 Bucharest-End of Tour
In the morning departure to Bucharest airport. You can extend your stay in Bucharest or continue to the Danube Delta, Bulgaria or Hungary.
